My parents and maternal grandparents...

From the May 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My parents and maternal grandparents were members of The Mother Church and of branch churches. As a child I attended the Christian Science Sunday School. However, when I was a teen-ager the ways of the world looked enticing; so for about ten years I wandered from the path of Truth. When I decided to return to the fold after much heartache and frustration, like the prodigal son, I found Love's welcome awaiting me. Although the road back was difficult and I had to prove that I was following Principle, I am home to stay.

A few years ago an infant daughter passed on. After her passing I lifted my thought to God, praying for comfort and strength. The message came to me as clearly as though it were a voice: "Tears denote self-pity. Gratitude antidotes self-pity." Momentarily I thought I had nothing for which to thank God; so I prayed for a grateful heart. Immediately the angel message came, "She lives, moves, and has her being in Mind." I knew that Life is eternal; that the child was in reality an eternal idea, conceived and brought forth as an expression of Life, Truth, and Love; and that nothing had interfered with or could ever interfere with her christ-consciousness, her very being. This realization brought freedom from sorrow.

The lesson was well learned, for a few years later when my husband passed on there was no grief, but only an abiding sense of peace and well-being, present both for him and for me. My recognition that his work was still his to do and that he still had Christian Science to help him in his further journeying was a great comfort and joy.
