Christian Science has brought me out of the bondage of illness into health and harmony. Strange pains in the head and a slight paralysis of the jaw, together with other alarming conditions, were experienced after I had permitted the tempo of my activities to become accelerated out of all reason. A false sense of ego had promoted this tempo, a fear of being considered old and of being left behind by friends who were very busy in various fields of interest.
A Christian Science practitioner was consulted. After hearing of the busyness of my days, she asked if I would be willing to relinquish for a short period my varied activities and to devote myself to the study of Christian Science, and she would prayerfully work for me. I consented, and the healing activity of the Christ, Truth, began immediately to manifest itself. A dear Christian Science friend in a nearby city asked me to stay in her apartment, where she would care for my needs. It appeared that God had opened a way for me to secure the healing that I needed.
During the three weeks which I spent in my friend's apartment I heard, read, and thought about nothing but Christian Science and its powerful truths. Some wonderful work was done for me by the practitioner. At no time did it even occur to me to resort to any other means of healing, and for this I am grateful. At the end of three weeks I felt able to go home. I knew then that a pattern for my future had been worked out so completely that I need never again let mortal mind lead me into false situations, nor need I ever again be so erroneously influenced as to what is true creative activity. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 230), "Rushing around smartly is no proof of accomplishing much," and in Isaiah we read (30:15), "In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength." This I found to be true.
