As one studies the teaching of Christian Science he learns to appreciate more deeply than ever before the debt of gratitude which we owe to the master Christian for his life of complete devotion to and love for mankind. His great mission is clearly stated in his own words (John 10:10): "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." Christian Science reveals that it is the understanding of the Christ which Jesus taught and demonstrated that today enables us to exemplify and evidence divine Life and to do it more and more abundantly.
Every earnest student of Christian Science is constantly progressing in the scientific understanding and demonstration of that Life to which Jesus referred. He is perceiving that God, Life, is one eternal, all-harmonious Being, unfolding forever from an immeasurable basis; and this perception gives man his individual sense of life, continuous and uninterrupted.
Because Life is the origin and ultimate of man, one must understand just what this means. Without understanding Life, we can never demonstrate it. This is implied in Jesus' statement (John 17:3), "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." Jesus fully perceived that Spirit is the origin and substance of all being, and on this basis he demonstrated that life is unending. Like Jesus, we must see and understand that Spirit constitutes man's eternal, original, and only substance.
