Through the years men have believed in the fulfillment of divine prophecy. They have been willing to accept as true the prediction of a Messiah as foretold by the prophet Isaiah (9:6), "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Among the disciples it was Peter who perceived in Jesus the qualities of the Messiah and declared him to be the Christ.
Scholars have generally agreed that the coming of Jesus fulfilled the prophecy that a Messiah would appear to humanity. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 131), "Jesus' works established his claim to the Messiahship."
The life and works of Jesus confirmed prophecy, for they bore witness to spiritual truth. The Master at all times possessed such an exalted, spiritual sense and understanding of God that he always demonstrated the power of spiritual truth over apparent material evidence. Readers of the Bible know that Jesus met any sense of lack with the spiritual fact of abundance, over-came sickness with health, and mastered death with the understanding of Life.
