I am profoundly grateful for The Mother Church and for its many branches all over the world. Although I had studied Christian Science for several years, always accepting its validity and realizing that it is the religion which is demonstrating the teachings of the Master, Christ Jesus, until I became a member of The Mother Church and one of its branches I did not progress satisfactorily in my understanding of Truth. When as a church member I began to serve, or give, instead of merely trying to get, the blessings came so swiftly I was astounded.
I am especially thankful for a healing our son experienced. While playing college football he sustained a strained ligament in the groin. He was sent by the coach to a physician and came home with a paper which stated that he must not walk, run, or exercise in any way for at least ten days. The condition was very painful and appeared serious.
The application of the truth as presented in Christian Science had previously met our every need, and there was no question as to its doing so this time. The boy and I realized that we were not attempting to heal a physical condition, because man is spiritual. In our study of the Bible we saw clearly that man lives, moves, and has his being in God, as we are told in Acts (17:28). In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy many references were found pertaining to muscles, inflammation, and pain which helped us to see that a material body is not one's master, but his servant. In two days the young man was back on the football field for practice, and by the termination of the ten-day period in which he had been told not to walk he had played in his regular position during two entire scheduled games.
