I should like to give thanks for Christian Science and for all the channels by which it is infusing fresh usefulness into human thought and action, uncovering and rectifying errors, resolving individual and collective difficulties. Before knowing of this religion I had a vague feeling that if one were willing to let go of willfulness and sincerely turn to God, help would be received. It was not, however, until Christian Science found me that I was furnished with the Principle, sound reasons, and rules for utilizing spiritual facts. These replaced my fragmentary and abstract theory with concrete truth.
The years have proved to me that when the truths in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, are spiritually realized and demonstrated, then our human needs are met in whatever form is necessary to satisfy the particular demand at that time. An experience will illustrate this. I was suffering from a distressing condition of eczema on my leg which had been continuously troublesome for fifteen years. Then, one day while I was helping a member of my family, this question formulated itself in my thought: "What are you expecting? Are you expecting a Christian Science treatment to alter a physical condition from a discordant form to a harmonious form?"
This did appear to be an unconsciously accepted notion in the back of my thought. Then I saw that a sense of materiality, or limitation, vanishes when its presupposed existence is replaced with a measure of spiritual truth. I saw that healing occurs because it has been realized to some extent that God is All, and that therefore matter, a sense of restriction, cannot exist in any form or degree. The sense of disease is thus dispelled by the sense of well-being, and the discord is replaced by concord, by harmony. A few weeks after this I found that the eczema had quite disappeared. On thinking back I found that the last time I had been conscious of it was just before the realization of these truths. On page 425 of our textbook Mrs. Eddy says, "Mortal man will be less mortal, when he learns that matter never sustained existence and can never destroy God, who is man's Life."
