What a happy privilege it is to express more fully the gratitude one feels for the Christ, Truth. Through Christian Science my mother was healed of a disease which had been pronounced incurable. Her father, a practicing physician, had taken her to several of his colleagues in the Midwest, but to no avail. Her brother, a dentist, had heard of Christian Science and recommended it to her. The healing was complete, and her entire family, including her father, the physician, became students of Christian Science.
My own father, who had previously failed twice in business, turned to God through Christian Science, and in his third venture he was wholly successful. The truths of the Bible and our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, were taught me as my earliest lessons and prevented the development of the usual childhood diseases. No other aid has ever been sought.
The first healing that I can recall was that of a large cut on the head. My mother had me repeat aloud with her the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation on pages 16 and 17 of the textbook, "the scientific statement of being" (ibid., p. 468), and the twenty-third Psalm. Though no stitches were taken, the long, deep cut was entirely healed the following day.
