I have received so much inspiration from reading the testimonies in our periodicals that I now desire, to contribute mine so that others may benefit as I have.
The first healings I received through the work of Christian Science practitioners were those of eczema, chilblains, falling hair, and constipation. These healings were instantaneous, even though I had had the conditions for several years. I did not, however, begin the study of Christian Science till about five years later, when I started to raise my family. Our three children grew to adulthood without ever relying on medical aid. So-called children's diseases and others, such as diphtheria and scarlet fever, were healed before the time allotted to call the health department. These healings were accomplished through my own study and application of Christian Science.
The healing of smallpox was an interesting one. The health officer was about to quarantine the family, but on learning that we were Christian Scientists and that our daughter was free from fever or pain, he decided that he did not wish to take the responsibility of quarantining the home. He called the chief health officer and told him the circumstances, saying, "You see, Doctor, these people are Christian Scientists, and you know what they do: they pray and get rid of the symptoms."
