It is with a heart filled with gratitude...

From the September 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a heart filled with gratitude for the teachings of Christian Science that I submit this testimony. I have had many instantaneous physical healings, and numerous business problems have been solved. In fact, it has been proved to me time and again that, as our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."

For thirty-five years I suffered from catarrh. I was told by five doctors that this condition was chronic and that I could never be cured. I also suffered from migraine, and I can hardly remember a time when I was not taking medicines. At the time Christian Science came into my life I was taking four different medicines daily. After reading a portion of the textbook I decided to take my stand with God; so I threw all my medicines into the dustbin. I cannot say that I was not fearful, for I looked a long time at one box of pills which the doctor had said I must not on any account forget to take. But finally I said to myself, "No, it's God all the way this time." My healing was a slow one, but each time I had an attack I did just what our Leader tells us to do (ibid., p. 393): "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good." One day I noticed that the attacks were becoming less severe and also less frequent. Finally they disappeared altogether.

I am grateful for the healings I have had through the loving work of a practitioner who has stood beside me in many a trial during physical and business problems. Two of the physical conditions healed were rheumatism in the hands and a sprained back. In one of the business problems court action had to be taken to obtain possession of property. The practitioner quoted to me this passage from the Bible (Gen. 18:25): "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" The magistrate ordered that possession of the property be given me within forty-eight hours. This case was especially interesting, inasmuch as it proved to be in the nature of a test case and opened the way for others to gain possession of their homes.
