It was about fifteen years ago that I first learned of Christian Science. For some time prior to this I had been convinced that there must be a religion which I could understand and live, although I had failed to find it through studying and reading works on every religion brought to my attention.
At last I asked a friend, whose life was a constant inspiration, concerning her religious faith. In response to this inquiry she presented Christian Science, and she showed me how to study it systematically through reading the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, using the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. Compliance with her instructions brought the conviction that this was the religion I had so long sought in vain. I read for hours each day, and while its appeal as a religion was irresistible, its healing efficacy was not so quickly grasped.
Before long I was confronted with a disturbing physical condition. As had been the custom all my life, I sought a physician, who immediately sent me to a hospital. An X ray revealed a growth, which the physician told my husband demanded an immediate operation and at least a year's recuperative period.
