It is time for me to express my gratitude for the many experiences and healings I have had since my first testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel of July 24, 1943. In the intervening years I have had innumerable proofs that when the law of God is understood and applied correctly to any problem, it brings about a right solution.
I should like to relate an outstanding healing I experienced which proved to me how very important it is to take one's stand and hold to it in spite of what the material senses tell one. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 392): "Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously."
One morning about two o'clock I awakened with an intense pain in one foot. Since further sleep was impossible, I sat up and studied the Bible and Science and Health. When it was time to begin the day's activities, my first thought was that it would be impossible for me to stand, much less walk; but my second thought was that if all I had read and studied since I awakened was true—and I knew that it was— I not only could walk, but could go about my duties in a normal way. I knew that if the man of God's creating is happy and free one day, he cannot be unhappy and in pain the next. Man is the reflection of God and is always at the standpoint of perfection. Holding fast to this truth, I arose and proceeded to get breakfast.
