Testimonies of Healing

A healing for which I am most grateful...

From the August 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A healing for which I am most grateful was that of a serious heart condition, which had persisted off and on for several years. Before it finally yielded, I had to have frequent help from a Christian Science practitioner. However, I did not lose a day from work because of the trouble, although I was up very often at night studying and struggling to get the higher understanding of God and of man, which I knew would free me. For a year and a half I had hardly a full night's sleep.

My attention was called to the fact that Mrs. Eddy defines "heart" as, "Mortal feelings, motives, affections, joys, and sorrows" (Science and Health, p. 587). I realized that my affections had to be spiritualized and purified. Mortal mind rebelled at this necessity, and the struggle was severe. However, I persisted in my study and application of Christian Science.

Finally, the truth dawned, and I saw that truly to love is to recognize and acknowledge God's allness and man in His image and likeness. I saw that man's affections are really the reflection of divine Love, which is expressed impartially, impersonally, and universally, leaving no place for self-pity, hurt feelings, fear, or hatred. I was healed at that moment, and I knew it. Since that time there has been no recurrence whatever of the difficulty.
