Before taking up the study of Christian Science about twenty-seven years ago, I was suffering from various complaints. I had been taking different types of medicines and other treatments. One day I was talking to a student of Christian Science who knew I was in great need. He wanted to help me and asked permission to repeat "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. After he quoted it I said, "That's the truth, and I believe it."
What I had heard was such an inspiration to me that I asked how I could know more about Christian Science, and I was directed to a Reading Room. After a very interesting talk with the librarian I decided to buy a copy of Science and Health. Next to my purchase of the Bible, I consider this purchase the best I have ever made.
My whole outlook on life was completely changed. I memorized "the scientific statement of being" and saw so clearly the truth it contained that healings came immediately. When I realized that Christian Science and medicine cannot work together, I threw out all my medicines and decided to rely on Science alone. I read the textbook from cover to cover many times, and the inspiration that followed proved to me I had indeed found something that I had long looked for. My next step was to purchase all of Mrs. Eddy's works and to subscribe to the periodicals.
