I feel impelled to express my deep gratitude for a wonderful healing experienced through the application of divine Truth, as revealed in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
One day my son evidenced symptoms of polio. I told myself that this disease was no more real than any of the other illnesses which he and I had conquered by calling upon God for His help as we are taught to do in Science and Health. However, my fear was so overwhelming that I turned from it to seek refuge in God. Truths that I had learned in the study of Christian Science flowed into my thought, reassuring me beyond question that the boy, as God's beloved child, His perfect idea, expressed only good, that God was his Father-Mother, and that he was in God's perfect care.
The following passage from Science and Health came to me (p. 154): "If a child is exposed to contagion or infection, the mother is frightened and says, 'My child will be sick.' The law of mortal mind and her own fears govern her child more than the child's mind governs itself, and they produce the very results which might have been prevented through the opposite understanding." I realized that my fear was occasioned by the name of the disease, which had been so publicized that it seemed more real and more powerful than other diseases.
