Testimonies of Healing

From the August 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to bear witness to the fact that the Christ, Truth, as revealed to us in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, will heal the sick; solve business, home, and financial problems; and bring to the student a degree of happiness and success proportionate to his fidelity and honesty of purpose. As we are told in Science and Health (Pref., p x), "The divine Principle of healing is proved in the personal experience of any sincere seeker of Truth."

As a child, living with my grandparents, I saw my grandfather healed of lung trouble. My grandmother was healed of the effects of an accident which had made her bedridden, as well as of a nervous breakdown and of stomach trouble of years' standing. With other members of the family I rejoice in the years of activity in the Christian Science movement which these two courageous pioneers maintained for over sixty years. Subsequently I have seen Christian Science healings experienced by my mother, then by the four children in our own family, and more recently by the little group of our grandchildren. All this proof of the efficacy of Christian Science fills me with humble gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose unselfish and divinely dedicated lifework is blessing the whole world today.

When our eldest daughter was about six years old, she fell from the second-story window of the sleeping porch where she had been put to bed for the night. For no reason which I could explain I was impelled to leave guests in the living room and go into the back yard, where I found her. The pain and shock were severe, and her cries brought to me an almost overwhelming sense of inadequacy, fear, and intense human sympathy. However, the constant declarations during the entire night that she was in reality the child of God, that the peace of God was ever present, and that the image and likeness of God could never be separated from his Father-Mother God brought rest and quiet. In the morning the child was free, and the family was able to go on a picnic which had been planned.
