My first testimony was published in the Sentinel of August 22, 1936. Since that time I have had many experiences of healing, protection, and supply. I would like to express my gratitude again with the hope that it will encourage others, especially those who are young students of Christian Science.
The ninety-first Psalm begins with the assurance of divine protection: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." An experience I had when very new in my study of this Science proved the value of listening to and obeying the still small voice of Truth. I had been placed in charge of a crew of men who were fighting a forest fire in the mountains. The flames, which had burned about one hundred and sixty acres, had been partially brought under control when I saw two spirals of smoke coming from the other side of a hill. I notified the men that I was going to see where the smoke was coming from and to request additional help.
Then I started across the burned area, as this was the shortest route to my car and it was necessary for me to reach a telephone which was some distance away. As I crossed the burned area a section of the mountainside started to slide. I felt led to drop to the ground, and as I did so I declared the truth, as we are taught in Christian Science, and tried to realize that God, divine Mind, was present and would show me what to do.
