"CONSCIOUSNESS, WHERE ART THOU?"

From the January 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy extends this rousing invitation to all mankind to take stock of where they stand in daily life (pp. 307, 308): "Above error's awful din, blackness, and chaos, the voice of Truth still calls: 'Adam, where art thou? Consciousness, where art thou? Art thou dwelling in the belief that mind is in matter, and that evil is mind, or art thou in the living faith that there is and can be but one God, and keeping His commandment?'"

To keep God's commandment is to know no other than the one Spirit, the governing Principle and the only Life of all that is. It is to know no creation other than the one related in the first chapter of Genesis. It is to know no man other than the man God created perfect, spiritual, and complete in His image and likeness.

How do we know when we are not obeying God's commandment? Christian Science tells us that we are not obeying His commandment when we believe that there is another mind and another creation.
