THE plan for peace so needed in the world today and which all may follow includes the overcoming of the fundamental causes for human warfare. Christian Science teaches that this overcoming is accomplished as God's law of harmony nullifies evil with the presence and power of infinite, eternal Truth.
Mary Baker Eddy tells us what is required in order to overcome the more deep-rooted of the errors which underlie individual as well as international discord. She states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 407): "Man's enslavement to the most relentless masters—passion, selfishness, envy, hatred, and revenge—is conquered only by a mighty struggle. Every hour of delay makes the struggle more severe. If man is not victorious over the passions, they crush out happiness, health, and manhood. Here Christian Science is the sovereign panacea, giving strength to the weakness of mortal mind,—strength from the immortal and omnipotent Mind, —and lifting humanity above itself into purer desires, even into spiritual power and good-will to man."
Most individuals would probably acknowledge that if mankind generally could be free of discord-inducing errors, the problem of lasting peace would be permanently solved for the world. They would also agree that this great accomplishment is something that cannot be legislated merely through national decrees of policy or international agreements, helpful though these may be in lifting the burden of fear that oftentimes contributes to tension between nations.
