Countdown to Discovery

From the December 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Yesterday
I wrapped almost-discovery
In remote colors,
Tied it with conservative string
And threw it far from me.
But why?
Discovery,
So pearl deep, star high!

Discovery
Needs courage to clasp its hand.
It frightens the not-so-mind.
"What's in there?" it says,
Then eyes the plump indulgences
And thin virtues,
Sighs, shudders, and retires.

Come courage,
Count down to power
Or up.
Unleash my lion-hearted thoughts,
Accustomed to look danger in the face.
Break animated imagery,
Not me, not me.
Find image in divinity.
