Joyously I should like to testify that Christian Science does heal and that through right application it solves all our problems. I have found that this Science is a most practical and logical religion.
When I went to Australia a few years ago and began to study the English language, I was very much afraid that I would not be able to learn it. I had little fluency in it after I had been constantly studying this language for one year. I was very discouraged, because this difficulty was a hindrance to me in every way. Whenever I was spoken to, I was afraid of making a mistake in giving my answer. This fear so overwhelmed me that sometimes I could hardly speak a word. The suggestion would come, You are too old to study a foreign language and will never learn it.
It was clear to me that only Christian Science could help me, and it did help. I humbly asked God for guidance, and then I realized the necessity of putting God first in all my ways. I was led to study the passage in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 242): "Self-love is more opaque than a solid body. In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant of error,—self-will, self-justification, and self-love,—which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death." I earnestly and systematically studied the Lesson-Sermons, which are given in the Christian Science Quarterly, and I endeavored to put into practice each day what I had learned.
