AT THE FORK OF THE ROAD

From the July 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The oneness of God and man as divine Principle and idea is a basic truth which Christ Jesus presented. It is fundamental to the understanding and practice of Christianity. It is explained and authenticated by all manner of healings in Christian Science, and its full acceptance disposes of every evil which mankind seems to experience.

When he finds the light of man's unity with God first dawning on him, the seeker for Truth senses that a new and better way to health and happiness has opened before him. Yet all too often he listens to the devil, who makes many suggestions such as these: You can give this idea a trial, but you should not go too far with it; or, It does look good, but do you want to give up all that is required of you? or, How can you stop relying on medicine now, since you and your family have depended upon it for years?

How long we can afford to stand at the fork of the road, debating with the devil the why, when, and how of our acceptance of the truth which has been revealed, is of course an individual affair. The time and circumstance of this acceptance are different for each one of us. But let us remember that we can have no greater occasion for realizing the ever-presence of God, divine Love, than during the time when someone dear to us is standing at the fork of the road.
