THE DIVINE CONSCIOUSNESS IS OURS BY REFLECTION

From the July 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Bible makes plain that God is divine Mind, and Christian Science teaches that He is the only Mind. Since He is man's God, He is man's Mind, the one, infinite, divine consciousness. Just as God is man's Life, his Soul, so the divine consciousness is man's consciousness. Man, God's expression, reflects all good from God.

The activity of infinite consciousness was the power that wrought Christ Jesus' resurrection from the tomb. The understanding of such activity can save us from the finite, destructive sense of the carnal mind. Every beautiful, useful idea expresses health, substance, intelligence, wisdom, and is ours by reflection.

Consciousness is aware of thoughts or ideas only. To analyze objects correctly, we must first see them as thoughts. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy states (p. 269): "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul. These ideas are perfectly real and tangible to spiritual consciousness, and they have this advantage over the objects and thoughts of material sense,—they are good and eternal." The Apostle Paul said (Rom. 1: 20), "The invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead."
