From the July 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When the Science of Christianity was revealed to Mary Baker Eddy, she was divinely led to take each progressive footstep necessary to elucidate, safeguard, and extend her revelation to cover humanity's needs. She held back nothing essential to the future advancement of Christian Science and of the individual Christian Scientist. Through experience as well as through inspiration her followers learn that hers was indeed the complete and final revelation of Truth, fulfilling the Master's prophecy of a Comforter which should guide into all truth.

The recognition of this fact brings with it a deepening appreciation of the rules that unfolded to our Leader for the guidance of her followers. Among these rules none is more significant than Article IV, Section 1, of the Manual of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, where, in referring to any applicant for membership in this Church, she writes:

"The Bible, together with Science and Health and other works
by Mrs. Eddy, shall be his only textbooks for self-instruction in Christian
Science, and for teaching and practising metaphysical healing."
