THE UNIFYING POWER OF GOD

From the August 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"We, to-day, in this class-room, are enough to convert the world if we are of one Mind; for then the whole world will feel the influence of this Mind; as when the earth was without form, and Mind spake and form appeared," declared Mary Baker Eddy in addressing a Primary class in 1889 (Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 279, 280). Christian Science shows the unifying power of Mind, God, to bring the whole human race into one fold and under one Shepherd. Before the call of Mind can be universally heard, however, the individual must understand God, the divine Principle of unity, and live consistently with that understanding.

Unity has its source in God, who is One and All. The primary unity, therefore, is that of God with His creation. Man, made in God's image and likeness, is at one with Him, and this relationship is symbolized by the sun and its rays of light. The innumerable rays emanating from the sun are individual, and they actively manifest light. All the rays are in accord with each other, governed, controlled, and empowered by their source.

So man, as individually a ray of God, can give out only what is in God's nature. He must manifest spiritual light, love, affluence, joy, immortality, individuality, health, holiness, and unity. In the allness and oneness of Mind, each individual idea of God exists in perfect accord with every other idea. In God's kingdom there is no room for conflicts, divisions, barriers of any sort, mortal thoughts, sin, sickness, or death.
