LECTURE PREPARATION

From the August 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The thought of establishing a Board of Lectureship came to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in answer to her earnest prayers to God for guidance in forwarding her revelation of Christian Science. It was an angel message which she heard and heeded.

Every activity emanating from God, divine Mind, and functioning under Mind's divine control has a mission to fulfill. A Christian Science lecture lifts human consciousness above the material sense of existence to the spiritual sense; it brings to human consciousness an understanding of the great and only God and teaches mankind the beauty and power of holiness.

In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," in a letter to The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 248), "The Christ mode of understanding Life—of exterminating sin and suffering and their penalty, death—I have largely committed to you, my faithful witnesses." This sentence reminds us how important, how holy, the work of lecturing is, and shows the importance of lecture preparation.
