TRUE BASIC RESEARCH

From the August 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At this period, great emphasis is being placed on the necessity of penetrating investigation of fundamental facts. This trend in human thinking is very encouraging to Christian Scientists, who are convinced that beyond and above all material investigation the one fundamental fact which will eventually and inevitably come to light is that God is All-in-all. When this fact is more universally understood, peace, happiness, and well-being will be enjoyed by all mankind.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, spent much of her long human existence in true basic research, seeking for the cause of every effect. Her search was fruitful, and she gave the world the result of her findings in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." That her discovery of Christian Science was correctly set forth is proved by the thousands of healings which individuals have accomplished by following her teachings as given in the textbook.

As a by-product of her search, Mrs. Eddy found that physical science and materia medica do not go far enough in their investigations. They often give error or evil the title of cause and then attempt to use another error or evil to correct or cast out the first error. This method per se would set up a kingdom other than the kingdom of God, establish a cause other than the one, divine, eternal all-powerful Mind.
