"I SHALL BE SATISFIED"

From the August 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science presents the gloriously satisfying view of man as the individual, perfect expression of God. Man includes by reflection all good. Are we denying this birthright by allowing ourselves to feel dissatisfied?

One of the great problems facing mankind today is dissatisfaction. Countries are often dissatisfied with territorial boundaries, peoples with their governments, individuals with almost everything, including themselves. Stout people may be trying to reduce or thin ones to gain weight. Older people want to look young, and youth sometimes seeks means of maturing more rapidly. Everywhere, one finds evidence of the lack of satisfaction and contentment.

Part of a dictionary definition of "satisfy" is "to gratify fully the desire of; to make content." The Psalmist sang (Ps.17: 15), "I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness." One might paraphrase: When I fully realize my completeness, my divine heritage, my fullness of joy, right activity, right environment, as God's beloved son, I shall be satisfied.
