MAKE ROOM FOR THE CHRIST

From the August 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One of the most beloved narratives in the Bible is that of the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem and the birth of Christ Jesus while they were there. It is recorded in Luke that "the days were accomplished that she should be delivered" (2:6). The account continues, "And she brought forth her firstborn son . . . and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn."

No room in the inn! Indeed there was no material place for the corporeal Jesus in that inn. But does not the account reveal an even greater lack and need? There is never room for the Christ, God's divine ideal, amid the materiality of the world. Men must be fully prepared for this glorious gift from God, this spiritual revelation of Christ, Truth.

Centuries after the appearing of Jesus, the final revelation of the Christ-idea came through the discovery of Christian Science. As students of this Science of Christ, we may well ask ourselves daily if we are preparing room in the inn, if we are keeping our thought clear and pure so that we may realize more and more of the Christ-idea in consciousness.
