I shall never cease to be grateful to the friend who sent me a gift subscription for The Christian Science Monitor. I had been in a sanatorium for a long time under treatment for tuberculosis. The doctors had informed me that my only possibility of leaving the sanatorium was to submit to a series of three major operations, but there was only a chance that this would be successful.
