IN Christian Science we learn how the scientific action of God, divine Mind, eradicates sickness and sin. Mrs. Eddy says in the textbook, Science and Health (p. 210): "Knowing that Soul and its attributes were forever manifested through man, the Master healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, feet to the lame, thus bringing to light the scientific action of the divine Mind on human minds and bodies and giving a better understanding of Soul and salvation."
Since divine Mind is infinite, its opposite, called mortal mind, has no source and is therefore unreal. It is without substance or intelligence. Since mortal mind has no intelligence, its seeming activity is imaginary, powerless. Sin and suffering may seem very real to mankind, but when the student of Christian Science denies the spurious action and false images of mortal mind and then earnestly seeks to understand the divine Mind and its scientific action, sympathy with error is put to rout. When man is seen as the perfect, eternal reflection of his Father-Mother God, the action of the divine Mind, infinite Love, is manifested in healing.
Christ Jesus came to demonstrate for each one of us the great blessings that an understanding of the divine power and presence can bring to suffering humanity. As the student of Christian Science becomes more aware of the action of Mind and witnesses its healing effects, he is interested in learning more of this action which can lift mankind out of the depths and leave in the wake of seemingly intolerable pain, or sorrow, or despair "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7).
