TWO significant questions that the Christian Scientist can ask himself in any situation are: What is God's demand? and, How am I fulfilling it?
In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes (pp. 253, 254): "The divine demand, 'Be ye therefore perfect,' is scientific, and the human footsteps leading to perfection are indispensable. Individuals are consistent who, watching and praying, can 'run, and not be weary; . . . walk, and not faint,' who gain good rapidly and hold their position, or attain slowly and yield not to discouragement." God always demands perfection, and one fulfills this demand by the watchfulness and prayer which are requisite to the demonstration of that which is spiritually scientific.
Since God's demand for perfection is scientific, as our Leader says, it must rest on the fact that present perfection characterizes Deity and all His creation. Therefore, God's demand can be fulfilled. Perfection is not something that is brought about or created by the individual; it is the fact of spiritual being, immutable and permanent.
