In his poem "The Chapel of the Hermits," John Greenleaf Whittier wrote,
Through the harsh noises of our day
A low, sweet prelude finds its way.
The Psalmist must have glimpsed the way, for he wrote of God as saying (Ps. 46:10), "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."
