Answered Prayer

From the August 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

True prayer is not in asking God for things,
Though we may feel a very pressing need;
It is in giving gratitude that brings
Enlightened thought to see the proper deed
Which will in turn supply necessities.
God has already given us all good;
It dwells in Mind like unsung melodies
To be brought out to bless our humanhood.

Our part is not to beg nor yet direct
Almighty God, but we must tune our hearts
And, like the rising lark, we must expect
To catch the melody and sing its parts.
When we respond to God's unfailing care
In deed and song, we joy in answered prayer.
