For many years economists have labored under the belief that mortal thinking must move in series and that it must repeat itself. Like the cyclical movements of the stars and planets, mankind is supposed to act inevitably in repetitive ways which include both good and evil. The first economic theories concerning cycles were tied in with astrology. Even the tendency to measure economic activity by fiscal or business years binds mankind to solar or astronomical time. This kind of measurement is itself limiting, restrictive, and is not in accord with Christian Science, the Science of the ever-operative cycle of good.
"The cycle of good obliterates the epicycle of evil," declares Mrs. Eddy in her work, "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 270). Christian Science shows that God is All, that divine Mind is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent. The activity of God is the cycle of good, and there is no other cycle.
It is important to understand the cycle of good, of divine Mind, in order to prevent bad results from the popular belief in cyclical evil. More positively, it is important to understand that the cycle of good is ever operative, is never hit-and-miss, never ebbs, never varies. There is never too much, never too little, of good. It is never stagnant, never convulsive. It is totally independent of time. It defies measurement, restriction, or contraction. It is ever infinite, without beginning, without end.
