"CHRISTIAN SCIENCE IS SIMPLE"

From the August 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

On one occasion Jesus called a little child to him and said to his disciples, "Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 18:3). These words of the Master show the necessity of our having the humbleness and innocency of a little child if we are to gain an understanding of Christianity.

Christian Science, the Science which Jesus practiced, is simple, and children easily grasp the truths of this religion. This is proved when through their understanding they often overcome their physical ailments. Adults sometimes think Christian Science is difficult to understand. This may be due to their material knowledge, to a theoretical search into its teachings, or to a belief in intellectuality. As so-called material knowledge which is obtained through the material senses decreases, an understanding of Christian Science can be gained. There are no man-made doctrines or human creeds in Science, but there are six simple tenets which give the important points of this religion. (See Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, pp. 496, 497.)

Paul wrote (II Cor. 11:3), "I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." The serpent, animal magnetism, would endeavor to keep us from understanding Christian Science and thus deprive us of its healing efficacy.
