Christian Science was offered to my father by his brother, and how hungrily he drank in every word! The way that he accepted and loved this Science has been an inspiration to me through trying times. We were brought up thinking of health instead of sickness, of love instead of hate, of gratitude instead of ingratitude. Consequently, we were a happy family. Christian Science has helped us financially as well as in other ways.
Through my sister's prayerful metaphysical work I was healed of stuttering while in grade school. This had been a great drawback in my schoolwork. At another time, through prayer, we were protected from a tornado; it lifted, and the city was unharmed.
Not until my marriage, however, did I realize the need to study the Lesson-Sermons, given in the Quarterly, and to read the other literature. It became imperative to me, in the language of the Scriptures, to "choose . . . this day whom ye will serve" (Josh. 24:15). I well knew whom I wanted to follow. I did not want to give my children medicine. I wanted so much to entrust them to God's care instead. Then I began to study seriously. Words alone cannot describe the help this great truth gave me in rearing our family. What a burden falls from our shoulders when we trust our children to God!
