I began the study of Christian Science in the hope of finding security, peace, and a way to survive under adverse circumstances. For several years I had been plagued by discouragement. I shall always be grateful for the compassionate perception of the neighbor who called my attention to Christian Science and let me borrow a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
Reading daily, often for hours, I began to feel hopeful that peace and security could be mine. I purchased my own copy of Science and Health and continued to study.
One Sunday at a service in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, the congregation audibly repeated, as is usual, the Lord's Prayer while the First Reader repeated its spiritual interpretation given by Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health, pp. 16, 17). They came to this section:
