I was led to the study of Christian Science through a curiosity to know what it is. My husband's parents were Christian Scientists, the literature was in their home, and I often picked it up and read it. Little by little I began to see the logic of what I was reading. The thought then kept coming to me that if Science was true, I could prove that it was.
My first proof was with our infant son. One night he kept crying and could not go to sleep. After trying for some time to quiet him, I recalled a paragraph from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, where, after pointing out that God is All-in-all and is Spirit, she concludes, "Therefore in Spirit all is harmony, and there can be no discord; all is Life, and there is no death" (p. 331). The thought that "all is harmony, and there can be no discord" was so clear to me that all at once the child stopped crying and was soon fast asleep. After this I began to use the truths I had learned and found I could apply them to any situation.
Early in my study I was healed of heart trouble. I had been applying Christian Science to all the small problems that came along, but when the heart trouble presented itself I became very fearful and consulted a doctor. He immediately confined me to bed. The verdict was that not only was my heart affected but there was a deficiency in my blood which was producing weakness. A course of medical treatment was prescribed. I followed the doctor's instructions for several weeks, but instead of getting better I grew weaker.
