My heart is full of gratitude for the fact that I was led to become a student of Christian Science. One day a relative visiting in our home gave me my first insight into it and kindly lent me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. From the moment I began reading it, I felt inspired and was convinced that God's Word was speaking through its pages. As I read the first chapter, which is entitled "Prayer," my thought was illumined, and I was eager to learn more of the book's contents.
This was in 1928 when my husband and I were living on a farm in the Northwest. We had borrowed the money to plant a large wheat crop. It was just ripe for harvest when a terrific wind and hailstorm destroyed it completely. This was a disappointment to me, because I had thought the truths I had been reading would surely save the crop, and I turned away from Christian Science. I had yet to learn that it takes more than a perusal of the textbook to be able to apply its truths effectively.
We then left the farm and settled in a large Middle Western city. Here again Christian Science was brought to my attention by a neighbor, and I resumed my study.
