I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science and particularly for a healing that I had while I was attending junior high school. Our city was gripped by an intense fear of infantile paralysis and was in quarantine, the public schools and Sunday Schools having been closed. One day the mother of a friend I had been visiting sent me home because she thought I looked sick, and soon afterward I was in bed with a fever. My mother kept me isolated; and we talked of the truths of Christian Science, but the fever did not abate. About the third morning it was worse. My mother sat by my bed, and we talked of the fact that our Father-Mother God is the only creator of man and that He makes His children perfect and keeps them that way.
In a short while I felt a little better. Then my mother left me to go into the kitchen to wash dishes. I wanted very much to be with her and to talk again of God's love. So very soon, though I still was weak and it took a great effort, I got out of bed. I dried the dishes, and together my mother and I sang hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal. That was the end of the fever.
On the morning of the day on which the schools were to reopen, one of my legs felt very stiff. Again my mother and I declared spiritual truths. As I continued to declare the truths that we had discussed and began to claim them for myself, I felt a great sense of joy, and the stiffness disappeared. I was admitted into school after an examination by the school nurse. This healing took place many years ago, and there has been no recurrence of any of these symptoms.
