As a child I learned to know the Bible well, and I often read from it. However, no one could answer the questions which arose in my thought about its contents, and so I became more and more convinced that this was a very puzzling book. I often prayed, "Dear God, give me understanding to live in accordance with the Bible."
Then when I was serving my vocational apprenticeship, I witnessed the healing of a co-worker in a few days of stomach ulcers, of the effects of an injury to the brain, and of the smoking and drinking habits. But what surprised me more than anything else was the complete transformation of his nature, for I had never seen such a manifest change of character. I learned that this healing had been brought about through the application of Christian Science, and my interest was aroused.
Because the marks on my report card from the technical school I attended were not good and I was about to take my final examination, I decided to find out whether this religion was applicable to every situation, as I had been told it was. I went to see a Christian Science practitioner and told him I feared that I would not pass the examination. Lovingly he explained to me that all good thoughts come to man from God and are available to every individual. I realized then that all true thoughts come from God and that they are intelligent and harmonious.
