"RISE IN REBELLION"

From the February 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian Scientist's allegiance is to God alone and to the truth of being. He cannot believe in the genuineness of both matter and Spirit or obey both material law and the law of Spirit. His faithfulness to the truth as taught in Christian Science makes him rebel against all so-called laws of sin or of sickness. He refuses to compromise with matter or with error of any kind.

The Scriptures tell us that God is the only creator and that all that He made is good. He did not make a law which could cause suffering, sin, or death. If there seems to be such a law governing mankind, it is only the testimony of the material senses and not the truth of being. For man is the image and likeness of God, and there is only one law governing him—the law of God, the law of Truth, Life, and Love.

There are times when an individual may believe in and obey laws other than the law of God. Perhaps he may submit to the belief that matter has intelligence and power and that by breaking a so-called law of mortal mind he can be made to suffer.
