"PRACTICAL SCIENCE"

From the February 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Under the marginal heading "Practical Science," Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 128): "The term Science, properly understood, refers only to the laws of God and to His government of the universe, inclusive of man." And farther along in the same paragraph she says: "A knowledge of the Science of being develops the latent abilities and possibilities of man. It extends the atmosphere of thought, giving mortals access to broader and higher realms."

The teachings of Christian Science contain the exact Science of Life. They reveal the true Science of being. If one accepts this Science wholeheartedly, it opens the mental window through which the illumination of Truth fills human consciousness with spiritual understanding and the power of demonstration. By realizing that all presence, all power, all Science, belong to God and that man in His image has by reflection the ability to act with divine authority, mankind may avail themselves of the spiritual truths which enable them to demonstrate the Science of Christianity.

Throughout her writings Mrs. Eddy shows that the laws of God, which underlie all her teachings, have existed forever and need only to be understood in order to be demonstrated. As we not only accept but practice this religion, we embrace the only way whereby we may develop our "abilities and possibilities" as God's reflection, demonstrating our dominion over the earth and thus bringing into human appreciation and enjoyment the kingdom of heaven, or reign of harmony, already actually within us.
