DISEASE HAS NO NAME OR CLAIM

From the March 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The names and claims of diseases have become so elaborate in these times that the very hearing of them frequently instills fear in the hearts of mankind.

Christian Science teaches that "Spirit names and blesses all" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 507). In Genesis we read (1:31), "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." This viewing of good obviously cannot include the naming or blessing of disease. If Spirit names all, the nature of the universe and man must be spiritual. Spirit, having no knowledge of its suppositional opposite, matter, is capable of cognizing and manifesting only its own absolute supremacy and goodness, even as the sun, by its very nature, is capable of emitting only light.

Disease is a type of ungodlikeness, without real identity; it is merely a belief of the material senses—a dream, no more real than the night dream. We shall have dominion over all the counterfeit beliefs of disease and its so-called effects which claim to obscure our real spiritual nature or identity as we realize the infinite nature of Spirit, God, through daily practical expressions and demonstrations of Godlikeness.
