SIGNING OUR NAMES

From the March 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The first tenet of Christian Science reads, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 497).

Before becoming a member of a Church of Christ, Scientist, I had neither thought much about eternal Life nor had I received much inspiration from reading the Bible, although religion was considered vital in my home. Since my father was a minister, I naturally joined the church to which my parents belonged.

Among my acquaintances at the time of my early married life was a family of Christian Scientists, and I observed many healings taking place in that home. When questioned about those healings, my friends were happy to give credit to Christian Science, and they lent me a copy of Science and Health. This indeed was a key that opened the door to an entirely new vision of the inspired Word of the Bible and to many healings in the years following. The study of the Bible and Science and Health was begun in earnest. My husband and I attended a Christian Science church regularly, studied the Lesson-Sermon, given in the Christian Science Quarterly, and read the periodicals, including The Christian Science Monitor.
