WHO SHALL POSSESS?

From the March 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The world of today is seething over the issue of who shall possess it. Individuals and nations strive with each other to excel and dominate in things both material and mental. World powers contend for possession of the earth and its resources, for supremacy of sea, air, and outer space, and for control of men's minds.

The question, "Who shall possess?" is answered by the Scriptural decree (Ps. 24: 1), "The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein." Thus God alone truly possesses, and He possesses all that truly exists.

A little child's possessions are in the main the things given to him by his parents. Because spiritual man is the child of God, his possessions are the beautiful and perfect things of Spirit given him by his Father-Mother, divine Love. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 337): "Eternal things (verities) are God's thoughts as they exist in the spiritual realm of the real. Temporal things are the thoughts of mortals and are the unreal, being the opposite of the real or the spiritual and eternal."
