"THESE PREMISES PROTECTED"

From the March 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is not uncommon to see posted on a door or gate the words, "These premises protected," followed by the name of some detective or protective agency. As alert students of Christian Science we may well adopt this as our slogan and keep it in our thoughts. The premises which we cherish and consider so valuable may be a home, a farm, a school, or perhaps a place of business.

Important as these material premises are, we know that our mental premises are of far greater importance. In Christian Science we are taught how to protect these mental premises, and we do so by being obedient to the Ten Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount, and the teachings of Christian Science. When erroneous thoughts or temptations try to trespass on our thinking, we can face the error with the words, "These premises protected by divine Love." This readiness to reject sinful, sickly, or unloving thoughts will prevent evil from obtaining a foothold in our consciousness and hence in our experience. We can never be too careful to maintain truthfulness, joyousness, graciousness, and all those other lovely traits that characterize the child whom God created. These qualities make us immune to temptations of every kind.

Christian Science stresses the fact that the understanding that man is spiritual, made in the image and likeness of God, is our greatest protection. This truth is effective wherever we may be—in an automobile, an airplane, a ship, or at home. We cannot remove ourselves from God's protection as long as we are consciously at one with Him in thought.
