PREPARING FOR THE PRACTICE

From the March 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Every student of Christian Science who applies its teachings to the solution of human problems is practicing this Science. Those Christian Scientists who devote all their time to the healing work are designated as Christian Science practitioners. Many of them, in carrying on their healing work, maintain offices for the purpose of seeing patients, while others have appropriate arrangements in their homes where interviews may be had with dignity and propriety.

It is necessary that Christian Scientists who are properly prepared for this work be identified as Christian Science healers and at the right time be listed in The Christian Science Journal, the official organ of The Mother Church. To do this one must furnish evidence of his ability to heal in accordance with the teachings of Christian Science, devote full time to the practice, be of good moral character, and uphold the highest standard of ethics.

Whether or not the student realizes it, the mere act of becoming a Christian Scientist has in some measure led him to dedicate himself to God. Every healing accomplished in Science leads him further in the work of proving God's redemptive law and in strengthening his position as a practicing Scientist. Every advancing student should properly think of himself as a practicing Christian Scientist and feel free to heal others when requested even if he is not listed as a practitioner in the Journal.
