From the March 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Occasionally, through the years, Christian Scientists have received through the mail leaflets or circulars attacking Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy. Sometimes these attacks have originated with other religious groups, and the language they have employed may have been intemperate and even scurrilous. What can the individual Christian Scientist do in such a case?

In the first place, he can send the literature to the Committee on Publication for his area. Our Leader has entrusted the Committee on Publication with the responsibility for taking corrective action in regard to misrepresentations of herself and her teachings, and it is helpful for the Committee to know the extent to which a specific attack is being circulated.

It is not helpful for the individual Scientist to write to the person or organization responsible for the attack and undertake to set the matter right. Such an attempt may, in fact, complicate corrective action already being taken by the Committee. Great patience, love, and tact are often required to correct a deep-seated misunderstanding in such a way that healing will result rather than an aggravation of animosity, and the Committee's corrective work with a single person or organization may sometimes extend over a period of years.
