"THE PRESENT IMMORTALITY"

From the April 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The resurrection of Christ Jesus has special meaning for the student of Christian Science because he has learned that man is spiritual now and forever and that immortality is not something which must take place after death; it is a present fact and a demonstrable one.

In his resurrection, Jesus vividly showed that death does not end the human sense of life but is merely an event in it and that mankind continue unchanged after death. More importantly, his resurrection showed that the overcoming of mortality depends upon Christliness, upon the consistent living of the divine nature. This is our resurrection also, our rising above the mortal sense of existence.

The only reason that an individual seems to die is that he has not manifested sufficient Christliness to prevent this experience. The spiritual child of God, his real self, has not clearly enough appeared. The belief of being a mortal temporarily dominates his thought.
